Hello. I’m Marianne Kjær Jensen.
I live in Copenhagen, Denmark where I work as a freelance User Experience Designer. I’m a Canadian expat (Danish born/ Canadian raised) and moved to CPH from Vancouver in early 2007.
Kurrent Creative is my project and portfolio space as well as my blog – where I write about work (design, usability and information architecture) and sometimes (more and more it seems) about life, living in Denmark, travels and the like.
Educational/ professional background
I have 10 years experience working with online media – with focus on design, usability and information architecture. I hold certifications in design, programming, and venture development, a BA in Economic Geography, a specialization in Urban Studies, and an Associates Degree in both Fine Arts and Economics. I participate in ongoing studies/ communities focused on usability best practices and work with a client base that ranges from leading national agencies to innovative local businesses.

When it isn’t all about work
My off-hours are by preference few, given a slight obsession with work, but there is the odd period here and there when a quiet freelance week will sneak up on me…but maybe that’s a good thing. Right now I am:
1. Learning to paint – I’m enjoying the challenge of shifting from the familiarity of pixels to the unpredictability of paint. Our instructor is good at keeping a straight face, I must say.
2. Being healthy – fitness and training does a little (I hope) to rescue my computer posture and overall sanity, and experimentation with new food recipes tends to clear my mind of daily clutter.
3. Likely working on another photo project. I recently finished my 365 project (a one-photo-per-day-for-a-year project on Flickr) and am playing with a few new ideas.

4. Brushing up on my written Danish – all those exceptions to the rules – it’s one of my favourite things ever (not). One day I’ll get there… but for now I’ll keeping working at it.
Dansk er svært – There is this tricky business of learning to write and speak the Danish language…
5. Maybe travelling a little bit.
